PSY2125 Psychology of Death, Loss, and Grieving

This course examines the concepts of death, loss, and grieving from a biopsychosocial perspective. Cultural perspectives of death will be analyzed, including the various aspects of death, the institutions involved, the dying process, and various customs and rituals surrounding death. Factors of loss and grief across the lifespan will be investigated, including age and circumstance of death, the steps of the grieving process, customs, expectations, psychological, and social implications. Physical, social, and psychological support mechanisms, processes, and therapies that are available for the dying and the bereaved are explored.
