BIO1310 Biology 1: Cell and Molecular Biology
This course introduces students to the principles of life at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels. Students will explore atomic structure and characteristics of biological molecules, structure and function of diverse cell types, the role of DNA in heredity and gene expression, cellular and organismal reproduction, energy transformation and processing, and cellular communication in development. Students will investigate the regulatory mechanisms that maintain balance within living systems, and how disruptions to these processes can lead to disease. The laboratory component complements the lecture by engaging students in the scientific method, data collection, and analysis to investigate biological concepts and problem-solving in the life sciences.
