Overview:
Earning Marion Tech’s Early Childhood Associate’s Degree provides a pathway to a number of careers. Graduates will be prepared to earn the CDA (Child Development Associate) credential - indicating a professional's competency in childcare. It's administered by the Council for Professional Recognition, and is recognized across the US. Earning a CDA can lead to career advancement and is a valuable step for those entering or growing in the field. Graduates also have the option to continue their education at a four-year partner college to earn a K-5 teaching license.
Transfer:
Currently in process. We are working with several 4 year partners that will provide successful graduates with a pathway to earn a K-5 teaching certification. Most general education courses transfer as a part of Ohio’s OT-36 transfer pathway.
Job Outlook:
There are approximately 700 jobs for pre-school / day care workers in the seven county area Marion Tech serves. The average annual wage is just over $33,000. Graduates who complete a 4 year degree and obtain K-5 teaching certification can expect to earn $50,000 - $65,000 per year.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of child development theories and milestones, including physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains, and apply this knowledge to support children's growth and development.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning experiences that promote children's cognitive, language, and motor skills, while respecting their individual needs and cultural backgrounds.
- Utilize effective observation and assessment techniques to gather data on children's development and behavior and use this data to plan and adapt individualized instruction and interventions.
- Create inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments that value diversity and support the needs of children with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Develop strong communication and collaboration skills for working with families, recognizing the significance of family partnerships in children's educational experiences.
- Apply ethical and professional standards in early childhood education, including understanding and adhering to relevant laws, regulations, and codes of conduct.
- Demonstrate proficiency in promoting children's social and emotional development, including conflict resolution, self-regulation, and fostering positive peer relationships.
- Evaluate and incorporate technology and digital resources into early childhood education to enhance learning experiences and engage children effectively.
- Implement health, safety, and nutrition best practices in early childhood settings, ensuring the well-being of children and adherence to relevant health and safety regulations.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, staying informed about current research, emerging trends, and best practices in early childhood education, and reflecting on and refining one's own teaching practices.

Application Requirements
To apply for the Early Childhood Education Program, applicants must:
- Submit an MTC Application.
- Provide a final high school transcript (or GED results) and college transcripts (if applicable).
- Demonstrate college readiness by meeting the required minimum score on a placement test, successfully completing any required college foundation courses, or fulfilling other measures such as high school coursework, previous college coursework, or work samples.
- Interested students can enroll in the first two program courses to confirm interest; students are required to apply to admission to the program and pass a background check to continue past the first two courses.
