SWA1070 Applied Abnormal Psychology
This course introduces abnormal psychology with a focus on applied practice in mental and behavioral health. Using the most current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) as a framework, students examine major categories of mental disorders, their social and cultural context, and implications for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Emphasis on applying a biopsychosocial perspective, incorporating a psychiatric rehabilitation model grounded in empowerment, competence, and recovery, consistent with social work values and contemporary behavioral health practice.
