SOC1200 Sociology

This course will introduce students to the sociological study of society. Sociology focuses on the systematic understanding of social interaction, social organization, social institutions, and social change. Major themes that will be examined in this course include the interplay between the individual and society, how society is both stable and changes, the causes and consequences of social inequality, and the social construction of human life. Students will be able to identify and explain social patterns and how such patterns change over time and in different settings. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of sociological concepts as they apply to the interplay among individuals, groups and societies.
