POL1001 American Government
This course explores the American national government's purpose, structure, and historical foundations. Students will analyze the U.S. Constitution, federalism, civil rights and liberties, and the roles of political institutions, parties, and media in the democratic process. Fulfilling state civics requirements, the curriculum includes a dedicated study of the American economic system, the principles of capitalism, and foundational texts such as the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, the Emancipation Proclamation, and Dr. King’s "Letter from Birmingham Jail." By the end of the course, students will possess a detailed understanding of the U.S. government's branches, as well as the varying and competing influences that shape American democracy.
