2024-25 Course Catalog

ASL1030 Intermediate Sign Language

This course is a continuation of the American Sign Language sequence, building on the Introductory American Sign Language courses. Students learn to talk about people more abstractly, narrative events that occurred in the past, locate things around the house, ask for solutions to everyday problems, tell about life events, describe objects, and talk about weekend activities. Students also learn more cultural behaviors for directing and maintaining attention, keeping others informed, controlling the pace of the conversation, as well as resuming a conversation after an interruption. Students also learn more about Deaf Culture because of the heavily intertwined nature of culture and language.
