ENG0975 Reading & Writing Essentials
This course provides instruction and practice that will allow the student to have increased comprehension and retention of written communication, along with writing skills necessary to succeed in college courses. The concepts of main ideas, implied main ideas, location of main ideas, supporting details, inferences, transitions, relationships (involving examples, comparison and/or contrast, and cause and effect), organizational patterns, and argument evaluation are introduced and reinforced throughout the term. The course further focuses on paragraph and essay writing, and provides an intensive review of basic grammar and usage and a study of various sentence and paragraph patterns, along with experience in the composing process through the activities of drafting, revising, and peer review.
